Zen

Zen was the name of a computer system featured on the British science fiction television series Blake's 7. On the show, the voice of the computer was provided by Peter Tuddenham. It was the master control computer installed on the ship known as the Liberator, and was responsible for maintaining most of the ship's systems. Lower ship functions were controlled by smaller computer systems, which in turn were all coordinated through Zen. Zen maintained a vocal interface so he could communicate with members of the crew at any time. Zen was completely subservient to the whims of Roj Blake and the rest of the crew, and would not take independent action that challenged their actions, even if it meant dire consequences for the ship itself.

Zen and friends

Zen is also the name of a comic book character known as Zen the Intergalactic Ninja. The character was created by Steve Stern and Dan Cote and was featured in his own comic book series published by Zen Comics. In the 1990s, the series was licensed to Archie Comics.

Zen was an alien genetic experiment, created in a test tube on the planet Baltoon. The scientists governing the experiment felt that it was a failure, and so they scheduled to terminate the infant Zen. One of the scientists on the project, Teslah, took sympathy on the child, and rescued it from termination, placing him into a transport pod and launching him into outer space. Zen's pod landed on a planet in the Om system where he was discovered and raised by the Masters of Om. Zen was trained in multiple forms of martial arts, becoming a master fighter. Zen communicated with others via telepathy, and also possessed other psychokinetic abilities, such as telekinesis. As an adult, he sold his unique brand of fighting skills out to the highest bidder.
