Yuri is a fictional "trouble consultant" and one of the main characters featured in the Japanese multimedia franchise known as The Dirty Pair. She was created by author Haruka Takachiho and first appeared in a series of stories presented in serialized format in issues of SF Magazine, which were then collected into a volume of books beginning with Great Adventures of the Dirty Pair in 1979. In the original Dirty Pair OVA, Yuri was voiced by actress Saeko Shimazu. In the English dubbed version by Streamline Pictures, she was voiced by Wendee Lee. She has also been voiced by Jessica Calvello and Allison Sumrall.
Overview[]
Yuri is a law-enforcement agent and trouble consultant. She was born on the planet Yocha in the year 2122. She has since undergone genetic upgrading, and resides within a clone body. Yuri is employed by the World Welfare Works Association and is partnered with a fellow agent named Kei. Together, they are known as the Lovely Angels, or as some may call them, the Dirty Pair.
Yuri is very affable, and outspoken, but favors practicality and caution over overt violence. This is in stark contrast to her partner, who embraces a more "shoot first ask questions later" attitude. Though not a complete pacifist, Yuri will often use non-lethal forms of combat as well as equipment while on missions. On rare occasion however, she has been known to get violent should the need arise.
