Yamagata is a city in Japan. It is the capital city of Yamagata Prefecture located in the Tōhoku region of the island of Honshu. Yamagata is the birth place of influential sci-fi film director Ishirô Honda, who was born on May 7th, 1911. Honda is best known as the creator of the Godzilla film franchise.
