Xantha, or Xanthans are a fictional extraterrestrial race featured in comic books published by Marvel Comics. They first appeared in Fantastic Four, Volume 1 #7 in October, 1972.
Description[]
Xantha are a sentient bipedal humanoid race characterized by their short staure, yellow striated skin and huge bald heads (which seems to be a common racial trait amongst many Marvel Universe races). They are indiginous to the planet Xanth (also known as Planet X) in the Jatskan star system.
The Xantha possess a level of technology 1,000 times greater than that of the planet Earth, but they are not a space-faring race. Though journeying to the stars never held strong interest for the Xantha, they did develop two interstellar starships. The ruler of the Xantha was a man named Kurrgo.
History[]
Many years ago, the planet Xanth was struck by a meteor, which caused the destruction of the entire Xantha world. Earth scientist Reed Richards used Pym particles to shrink the remaining Xantha to a height of only four inches tall and then loaded them onto two starships, which enabled them to survive their homeworld's destruction. They eventually founded a new planet for themselves, which they creatively dubbed New Xanth in the heretofore previously unnamed New Jatskan star system. [1]
Notes & Trivia[]
- There were approximately 5 billion Xantha in existence prior to the destruction of Xanth.
