Notes & Trivia[]

  • The X-Men were created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby. They first appeared in The X-Men, Volume 1 #1 in September, 1963. The title eventually evolved to include the "All-New, All-Different" X-Men, after which the series became a runaway hit, ultimately changing its title to Uncanny X-Men. Since then, this outcast team of mutant misadventurers have appeared in numerous comic book titles that have since been adapted into several cartoon programs, feature films, and video games; not to mention copious amounts of merchandising ranging from toys to apparel.
  • This issue carries the approval stamp of the Comics Code Authority.
  • This issue shipped in both direct market and newsstand editions.
  • This is the first full appearance of Arkady Rossovich, aka Omega Red. He made a previous behind-the-scenes appearance in X-Men #2. He appears next in X-Men #5.
  • This issue establishes that one of Gambit's mutant powers is natural agility, which is a detail that is often forgotten in later stories.
  • Matsu'o Tsurayaba is smoking! Ooooh, that is what makes him truly evil. Of course, Gambit isn't much better. He just flicks his cigarette into the driveway of the Xavier school. For shame, Gambit. For shame.
  • Wolverine is apparently a natural talent at shooting hoops. He casually throws the basketball over his shoulder, rebounds it off the backboard and through the net. Is there nothing the man can't do?

Featured quote[]

  • Remy LeBeau: Alors! I thought I'd joined the X-Men... not the Brady Bunch! There are some things I prefer not to do in a group!
