'Wonder Woman's tiara is a fictional item featured in comic books published by DC Comics. It is associated with the character of Wonder Woman and first appeared in the introduction of the character in All-Star Comics #8 in January, 1942. Every interpretation of the Wonder Woman character, barring the 1974 TV movie version, has worn a variation of the tiara throughout their career.

Description[]

Wonder Woman's tiara is an open-ended metal band, usually colored gold, though sometimes silver, that Princess Diana wears around her brow. It has a pointed center and is adorned with a red five-pointed star jewel in the middle. This is Wonder Woman's symbol of office, and denotes the title of Princess. Depending upon the continuity in question, the tiara mystically appears and disappears whenever Wonder Woman needs to insta-change back and forth from her heroic identity to her civilian identity.

Usage[]

  • The tiara is worn at all times, including ceremonial and/or formal functions as it relates to Amazonian culture.
  • The tiara is also ideal as a throwing weapon, and functions similarly to that of a boomerang. Wonder Woman often throws the tiara, tripping up an adversary, and waits as the item returns to her hand. This is more an aspect of Diana's skill at throwing than a characteristic of the tiara itself.
  • The tiara played a small hand during a contest in which Wonder Woman raced against Mercury.

Notes[]

  • In the Wonder Woman feature film, Diana inherited the tiara from her aunt, Antiope, who had fallen to protect her from the German Army when they invaded Themyscira. Diana wore the tiara in her honor and first put it on while advancing the front line in Europe.
