Synopsis[]
Wolverine tries to explain to Nick Fury, Jr. about the seriousness of the Watcher suddenly appearing the way he did. Nick is distracted with his data pad and acts as if he had not even seen the celestial being (who is conveniently gone now). The two head to the Guernica Bar where they meet up with Victoria von Frankenstein. The bar is a special pub catering to people in Wolverine's line of work. Victoria brings him into the back where she tries to abstract the projectile from his shoulder. The operation is difficult due to Wolverine's healing factor. While Victoria works on him, Detective Chikeko Tomomatsu introduces Nick to the other patrons, Robert Templeton, Marcus H. Harold, Doctor Jason Rivera, and Anne Marie Hoag - leader of Damage Control. Victoria completes her procedure and removes the projectile from Wolverine's shoulder and drops it into a Negative flask so it can be analyzed.
Meanwhile in Willets Point in Queens, several of the compromised members of the criminal underworld as well as the New York City Police Department stand outside the gates of the Blenkin Pharmaceuticals plant. The laser weapon that had injured Wolverine has an auto-pilot feature built into it and comes flying down into the hands of one of the officers. Another man correctly assumes that S.H.I.E.L.D. will likely be tracking it, but the female officer indicates that it doesn't matter.
Wolverine and Nick Fury track the laser weapon Blenkin Pharmaceuticals. Wolverine drops down onto the roof of the building from the S.H.I.E.L.D. flying car, then slices his way inside, riding the elevator cables to descend into the lower areas of the building.
When Wolverine gets to the bottom level, he is confronted by a security force wearing Mandroid armor. Despite name-dropping his Avengers membership, the Mandroids are unimpressed and open fire on him. Wolverine slices open the power pack of a guard named Karl, which causes the armor to shut down. The other two Mandroids open fire on Wolverine.
Another Mandroid guard, armor still intact, realizes that Wolverine is not the true threat, and indicates that his team was alerted to a robbery. Wolverine tells the guard to follow him and makes his way elsewhere into the facility. They enter the loading bay, where they encounter the mind-controlled trespassers. Wolverine leaps into the fray, careful not to use his claws because he knows that these are just innocent victims. As the throng begins piling on top of Wolverine, a few get into a truck and take off rapidly.
The truck doesn't get far, however. Nick Fury hits the ejector seat button and vacates the S.H.I.E.L.D. flying car, allowing it to crash into the front of the truck. Fury enters the loading area as more Mandroids arrive to help Wolverine fight the possessed. Suddenly, a mysterious airship descends down attaches itself to the cargo container on the back of the truck. It then flies away before Wolverine or Fury can do anything about it.
A short while later, the stealth craft arrives at an industrial facility in Port Reading, New Jersey and lowers the cargo container inside. Scientists in lab coats scuffle about to unload the container's contents - an industrial incubator. All of the attending staff at the facility are hosts for an invasive possessing race. One of the men states that the incubator will allow them to breed quickly enough to complete their mission. All of the scientists form a line and begin cutting their arms open with a scalpel, allowing their blood to flow into the innards of the machine.

Notes & Trivia[]
- The character of Wolverine was created by writer Len Wein and artists John Romita, Sr. and Herb Trimpe. Most comic fans credit writer Chris Claremont with truly defining the character, however. He was introduced in a cameo stinger at the end of Incredible Hulk #180 in October, 1974, but made his first full appearance in the following issue, Incredible Hulk #181. In May, 1975, he became a member of the X-Men in Giant-Size X-Men #1. He has been associated with the X-Men in some capacity, either as a team member of an ally, ever since.

- This is the first appearance of Marcus H. Harold, who is a writer of fiction. Despite appearances and a similar sounding name, he is no relation to Harold H. Harold of Tomb of Dracula fame. He appears next in Wolverine #5.
- Victoria von Frankenstein jokingly goes by the alias of Victoria von Fronken-Schteen in this issue. Nick Fury, Jr. asks her, "Like the movie?" This is a reference to the character of Frederick Frankenstein from the 1974 film Young Frankenstein, who pronounced his surname as "Fronken-shteen".
- This is the first appearance of Robert Templeton. He appears next in Wolverine #5.
- This is the third appearance of Jason Rivera. He appeared last in the 1999 Iron Man Annual edition. He appears next in Wolverine #5.

- Anne Marie Hoag's name is mis-spelled as Ann-Marie Hoag in this issue.
- Nick Fury makes another movie reference in this issue. Before ejecting from the S.H.I.E.L.D. flying car, she says "Yippee-ki-yay". This is a reference to a famous line of dialogue spoken by Bruce Willis' John McClane from the 1988 action film Die Hard.
