William Alan Shatner is a Canadian film and television actor born in Montreal, Québec on March 22nd, 1931. In addition to his numerous roles in various movies and programs (several of which are considered iconic for their respective genres), Shatner is also an accomplished director, writer and producer. He is best known however for his portrayal of James T. Kirk, captain (and sometimes Admiral) of the infamous exploratory space vessel the USS Enterprise on the poplar hit TV series Star Trek.. Shatner's Kirk character was the central figure of the original 1960s Star Trek television series and the first seven Star Trek feature films, the fifth of which he directed.

William Shatner's very first work in a science fiction feature was in the "Nick of Time" episode of the 1950s-60s anthology series The Twilight Zone. He played a man named Don Carter, a newlywed who has a bizarre experience with a fortune telling machine at a local diner. Shatner appeared in one more episode of The Twilight Zone entitled "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" playing a character named Bob Wilson. This episode has since garnered a beloved reputation among sci-fi fans and proved to be the jumping-off point towards what would be a long and illustrious career.

- William Shatner and Star Trek co-star Leonard Nimoy's careers have paralleled one another on several occasions. They both appeared in episodes of The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits. They both appeared in "killer bug" movies. Nimoy made a brief appearance in the 1954 film Them!, while Shatner appeared in 1977's Kingdom of the Spiders. They both directed installments of the Star Trek film franchise. Nimoy directed Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, while Shatner directed it's immediate sequel, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier.
- William Shatner is credited as the author on the TekWar series of novels, and indeed, he developed the concept behind the novels while working on the set of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. The actual books however were ghost written by sci-fi author Ron Goulart. Goulart also wrote the 1985 novel Brainz, Inc., which Shatner used as partial inspiration for the books.
