Whitechapel is a district located in East End of the city of London in England. In 1888, Whitechapel became quite notorious as the territory of an elusive and sadistic murderer that history has come to know as Jack the Ripper. Though there were more than a dozen murders that took place in the late summer and autumn that year, there are five prostitutes of note, who are generally accepted to be the canonical victims of the Ripper.
The near future of Whitechapel doesn't look particularly great either. In the continuity of the FreakAngels series of graphic novels by Warren Ellis, Whitechapel is but one of many nearly devastated locales in England to emerge following the end of the world. The mutants who call themselves the FreakAngels took to living in Whitechapel during this time.
