A whip is a device that can be utilized either as a tool or as a weapon. Its most common usage is with animals, which is used as a form of forced compliance through pain. Animal trainers employed by circuses often use whips, but this is as much about showmanship as it is animal handling. Whips can also be used as torture devices or weapons.
