What If...? is an American animated streaming series of the superhero fantasy genre. It relates to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and was produced by Marvel Studios and distributed through Walt Disney Productions. The series premiered on the Disney+ streaming service on August 11th, 2021 with an order of nine episodes comprising the first season. The show is hosted by the celestial being known as the Watcher, who is voiced by actor Jeffrey Wright. Each episode draws on a pivotal moment from the Marvel Cinematic Universe history, and explores the possibilities of what might happen had events turned out differently than what we had witnessed. Maybe Howard the Duck is the most powerful hero in the MCU. Maybe Spider-Man becomes the Sorcerer Supreme. Maybe the Hulk turns pink instead of green. Maybe the Ancient One has hair. Journey with the Watcher to face the unknown and ponder the question... What If?

- What If...? was created and developed for television by A.C. Bradley.
- Based upon its very premise, this series is technically not part of Marvel Cinematic Universe continuity. However, it plays with alternate realities relating to characters from the MCU, rather than characters from the mainstream Marvel Universe. It can be construed that the alternate realities presented in this series are part of the growing Mutliverse concept, which began during the time heist from Avengers: Endgame, and was expanded upon in the Loki streaming series, the Spider-Man: No Way Home feature film, and the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness feature film.
- This series is part of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
- This series draws its concepts from What If?, Volume 1, which was an ongoing series published by Marvel Comics from February 1977 to October 1984, spanning a total of forty-seven issues.
- Many actors from the Marvel Cinematic Universe lend their voices to their respective characters in this series including Benedict Cumberbatch, Mark Ruffalo, Clark Gregg, Paul Bettany, Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Rudd, Tom Hiddleston, Hayley Atwell, and Samuel L. Jackson.
- Episode 1x02, "What If... T'Challa Became a Star-Lord?" is the final acting work for Chadwick Boseman. Boseman passed away from colon cancer on August 28th, 2020 at the age of 43.
