Wetworks is a fictional military unit featured in comic books originally published by Image Comics, which then became part of their WildStorm Productions brand. When WildStorm owner Jim Lee sold the imprint to DC Comics, the team was featured in titles published by DC. They first appeared in WildC.A.T.s #2 in October, 1992.
Wetworks is the name of a covert operations team that works for the government agency known as International Operations (I/O). During a mission to Eastern Europe to extract a deadly biological agent, the team members were double-crossed by elements within their own administration. To protect themselves during an attack, they deliberately exposed themselves to a symbiotic entity that covered their bodies with a highly durable golden shell. Cutting all ties with the Federal government, the "Wetworks" team, became a privatized response unit working for industrialist Armand Waering. Their allegiance to Waering found the soldiers engaged in an internecine conflict between members of the Vampire Nation and the Were-Nation.
