The Wellington Paranormal Unit, or Wellington Paranormal Division, is a fictional organization featured in the mockumentary horror comedy series Wellington Paranormal. It first appeared in the pilot episode of the show, "Demon Girl", and served as the primary organization of the program.
Description[]
The Wellington Paranormal Unit is a special task force of the Wellington Police District of the New Zealand Police. It was formed by Sergeant Ruawai Maaka in 2018 with the express purpose of investigating matters of the paranormal or supernatural. Its base of operations was Maaka's private office at the Wellington Central Police Station. Maaka recruited whom he believed to be his top officers, O'Leary and Minogue to serve as special investigators. A cameraman was hired to document their exploits. By and large, the other members of the Wellington Police District were unaware of the existence of this task force; or at the very least, they showed very little interest even if they were aware. It was not uncommon for Maaka to pull O'Leary and Minogue after a staff briefing to tell them about the latest bizarre case. The only other officer who was tangentially connected to the Wellington Paranormal Division was Officer Parker. Because he was often called upon to assist O'Leary and Minogue, Parker was occasionally witness to paranormal phenomena. In at least one instance, Parker even had direct interaction with the paranormal after temporarily developing magnetic powers after being exposed to radiation from a meteorite. [1]
