Weapon Plus

The Weapon Plus Program was a top-secret scientific project established by the United States government in the 1940s. It was the successor to Project Rebirth, which was the program designed to create physically enhanced super-soldiers, and transformed scrawny Steve Rogers into the power-house that came to be known as Captain America. Despite the fact that all data relating to Project: Rebirth was lost, the government continued in their efforts to duplicate the process.

A civilian scientific advisor named Truett Hudson, operating under the pseudonym "The Professor", was in Germany in 1945 and discovered a secret laboratory beneath a liberated prisoner camp, which had once been used by Nathaniel Essex. The information found in the journal gave Hudson the catalyst he needed to re-start the government's super-soldier initiative, which was branded as the Weapon Plus Program. Unlike previous government projects, Weapon Plus concentrated on the study, application and enhancement of mutants. Though the Professor played a key role in Weapon Plus's early establishment, it was actually the mysterious John Sublime who was the architect behind the program's formation, which he used as a means for suppressing the development of mutantkind.

Different sub-programs were developed, focusing on specific experiments, with each one given a Roman numeral designation. These projects were met with varying degrees of success, though mostly failures. By the mid 1960s, the U.S. government pulled the Weapon Plus Program. Professor Truett Hudson refused to have his work shuttered, so he began working with the Canadian government under Department H. This led to a new iteration of the project, the Weapon X Program. This program was secretly coordinated by the immortal Roman emperor Romulus, and had also established joint ties with the American Central Intelligence Agency.

In later years, John Sublime placed Malcolm Colcord as the director of the Weapon X Program. Colcord had been involved with the program in some form or another for many years before being placed in charge. He was one of the security guards present on the day that Experiment X, aka Wolverine, broke free of the laboratory and went on a berserker rampage through the facility. Colcord was severely injured during Experiment X's escape.
