Allusions[]
- The title of this episode refers to a commonly used storytelling device in television wherein a narrator (usually a cast member of the show) provides a brief recap of events from previous episodes, which may have yield consequences in events presented in the current episode. The title has a double meaning for this episode, as it provide insight into the back-stories of both Wanda Maximoff and Agatha Harkness.
- The origin of Agatha Harkness is revealed in this episode. She is presented as a witch in Salem, Massachusetts in the year 1693.
- Agatha Harkness declares that the use of chaos magic, such as Wanda demonstrates, brands her as a "scarlet witch". The Scarlet Witch is Wanda Maximoff's super-hero code-name in the comics. This is the first time it has ever been used in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (although Tony Stark) did refer to Wanda as "the witch" in Avengers: Age of Ultron).
