Notes & Trivia[]
- WandaVision was created by Kevin Feige, Louis D'Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Matt Shakman, and Jac Schaeffer. Shakman served as head writer on the series.
- Wanda Maximoff was created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby. She first appeared in The X-Men, Volume 1 #4 in March, 1964 in a story called "The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants!".
- The Vision was created by writer Roy Thomas and artists John Buscema, Marie Severin and George Klein. He first appeared in Avengers, Volume 1 #57 in October, 1968 in a story titled "Behold... the Vision!".
- Episodes 1.1 and 1.2 premiered on the same day.
- The opening title sequence is presented as an animated sequence.
- Most of this episode is shot in black and white, but progressively adds color as the episode comes closer to its conclusion.
- The town that Wanda and the vision live in is now identified as Westview. Their home is located at house number 2800. The street they live on is unidentified at this time.
- This is the second appearance of Agnes, Mrs. Hart, Dennis the mailman, and Phil Jones.
- This is the first appearance of Geraldine, who is the first African American resident of Westview presented in this series.
- This is the first appearance of Dottie, who is a resident of Westview and orchestrator of the town's talent show charity drive.
- This is the first appearance of Beverly, who is a resident of Westview and assists Dottie in putting together the talent show.
- This is the first appearance of Herb, who is a member of the Neighborhood Crime Watch. He is the second African American character presented in this series.
- The first use of color in this episode is at the seven-minute mark when Wanda finds a toy helicopter in the bushes. The second use of color is at the sixteen minute mark when Dottie cuts her hand. The blood on her hand is red.
- This is the first time that Wanda has ever demonstrated the power of conjuration in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
- Wanda's hairstyle and clothing, as well as that of other characters, suggests that this episode is patterned in the style of the early-mid 1960s, whereas the previous episode was clearly rooted in the 1950s.
- This episode suggests (albeit in the form of a joke), that the Vision has night vision. This has not been previously demonstrated.
Allusions[]
- The animated opening theme song is presented in a style similar to the 1960s sitcom series Bewitched. It is notable that one of the characters presented in this segment is an African America, which was never shown in old sitcoms.
- This episode includes a fictional commercial for Strücker Swiss made watches produced by Hydra. This is a reference to the character of Wolfgang von Strucker from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, who was a high-ranking member of the Hydra terrorist organization. Strucker is the man responsible for Wanda developing her powers. Strucker and Wanda made their first appearance in a mid-credit stinger at the end of Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2014.
- Wanda Maximoff and The Vision assume the stage names of Glamor & Illusion in this episode. Glamor and Illusion are actually characters featured in Marvel Comics titles. Their real names are Glynis and Ilya Zarkov, and they actually are stage magicians that have connections to the Vision and Scarlet Witch. They first appeared in Vision and the Scarlet Witch, Volume 2 #4 in January, 1986.
- In 1950s sitcoms, Standards and Practices would not allow showing a husband and wife to share the same bed together. It wasn't until The Brady Bunch in the 1960s that a married couple were allowed to be shown in the same bed. This is why Wanda and the Vision are shown sleeping in separate beds in the beginning of the episode.
- There is an advertisement in the supermarket for Bova Milk. Bova is a character from Marvel Comics titles with a connection to Wanda Maximoff's past. She is an evolved cow-woman created by the High Evolutionary.
- One of the songs performed in this episode is "Help Me, Rhonda" by the Beach Boys. It was released in March, 1965 on the album The Beach Boys Today!. This lends credence to the notion that some passage of time has occurred between this episode and the previous one.
Inconsistencies[]
- The Vision has the power to make his entire body intangible, allowing him to phase through solid objects. Why didn't he just phase the chewing gum out of his body before it compromised his internal mechanisms?
Quotes[]
- Wanda Maximoff: What do you see?
- Vision: Only your lovely rose bushes.
- Wanda Maximoff: That's all? Are you using your night vision, Vision?
