"Sick" is the second episode of season three of the survival horror television series The Walking Dead and the twenty-first episode of the series overall. It was directed by Billy Gierhart and written by Nichole Beattie. It first aired on AMC on Sunday, October 21st, 2012 at 9:00 pm EST. In this episode, the group struggles to save Hershel's life after an emergency amputation of his right leg. Hershel falls unconscious and things are touch and go. Glenn promises to take Hershel out if he should succumb to his injuries. Meanwhile, Rick, T-Dog and Darryl must deal with the five inmate survivors they have discovered. Rick lays down the law and tells them they will help them secure their own cell block in exchange for half of their food. They try to teach them how to fight the walkers with disastrous results. Not all of the prisoners survive their first battle against the walking dead.
