- Actress Hilarie Burton is credited as Hilarie Burton Morgan in this episode.
- The characters of Negan and Lucille are presented as husband and wife. Actors Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Hilarie Burton are married in real life.
- On The Talking Dead: Home Edition, Lucille's surname is revealed to be "Smith", implying that Negan's surname is also Smith, which likewise establishes that "Negan" is his given name, not his last name.
- This is the first and only appearance of Lucille Smith. Dies in flashback circa 12-years ago.

Allusions[]
- The title and story elements of this episode are an adaptation of the Walking Dead: Here's Negan! story and graphic novel. The story was originally published in serialized format in Image+ #1-16, and collected in a trade paperback collection in April, 2016, and in hardcover edition in October, 2017.
- Negan previously spoke about his wife and her cancer to Gabriel Stokes in the season eight episode, "The Big Scary U". Most of the information that he recounts from that episode is presented visually in this one.
- In the flashback scene, Negan tells an online gamer, "I hope you got your shittin' pants on, 'cuz you are about to shit your pants". This is the second time in the series that Negan has said this line. The first was to Gabriel Stokes in the season eight premiere, "Mercy".
- In this episode, it is Laura who first gives Negan the baseball bat that he will dub "Lucille". In "Chapter 8" of the Walking Dead: Here's Negan! serial, it was Paul that first gave Negan the bat.
- Before the flashback sequences commence, Negan returns to the tree with the stained glass frame hanging from it. This is the same spot where Rick Grimes nearly killed Negan by slitting his throat with a broken shard of glass. With Negan's defeat, this incident signified the end of the war with the Saviors. This took place in the season eight finale episode, "Wrath".
- It is stated that Lucille's favorite song is "You Are So Beautiful". This is a love ballad, written and performed by Billy Preston in 1974. The more famous version, and the one that is referenced in this episode, is the version performed by Joe Cocker, released later that same year and was released as a single and and appeared on the album I Can Stand a Little Rain.
- The radio announcement during the twelve-years-ago flashback is a send-up to the broadcast featured in the original 1968 classic Night of the Living Dead by director George A. Romero. Romero is considered by many to be the Godfather of modern zombie films. The Walking Dead executive producer and writer Greg Nicotero worked on the Romero 1985 sequel film Day of the Dead.
