Deadpool is a fictional mercenary and assassin featured in comic books published by Marvel Comics. His real name is Wade Wilson and he was introduced in the pages of New Mutants #98 in February, 1991. He was initially presented as an antagonist who fought up against the New Mutants and their successors in X-Force. As the character evolved, he became more humorous, notably for his persistent and unrelenting ability to gab during a fight, thus earning him the nickname "The Merc With a Mouth". Since then, Deadpool has gone on to spotlight several of his own titles and limited series, and even appeared in the film X-Men Origins: Wolverine, where he was played by actor Ryan Reynolds. Reynolds reprised the role of Wade Wilson in a version much closer to the character's comic book roots in the 2016 solo film, Deadpool.
