Vulcan is a fictional planet featured in the Star Trek film and television franchise. It is the home world of the Vulcan people and the birth place of several notable characters from the franchise including Spock, Sarek, Tuvok and T'Pol. The planet was first introduced in the season two episode of the original Star Trek television series, "Amok Time". It was also briefly seen in the episode "Journey to Babel", which introduced the character of Spock's father, Sarek. Vulcan has made sporadic appearances in episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Enterprise and was seen in four of the Star Trek feature films including, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home and the 2009 film Star Trek, which featured the planet Vulcan of an alternate timeline.

Location[]

Vulcan is located 16.391 light years away from Earth. It is the only planet in the 40 Eridani stellar system. It's approximate location was first identified in the adaptation of the "Amok Time" episode featured in the 1968 novel Star Trek 2 by James Blish. Since the information was never actually stated in the episode, it was initially considered non-canon material, but subsequent sources both official and non-canon have substantiated Vulcan's location in the 40 Eridani system.
