A vigilante is someone who takes the law into their own hands for the purpose of upholding justice. It should be noted that the individual's sense of justice, may not always coincide with the values of the general population. A vigilante is not officially recognized by any law-enforcement agency, and as such, are perceived as criminals.
Oliver Queen, from the CW Network television series Arrow is considered a vigilante. In fact, local media from the city that he operates out of have even taken to calling him "The Vigilante". Because of Queen's stylized costume and weapon of choice, he is also regarded as something of an urban superhero. Another masked vigilante who has aided Queen on occasion is his former lover, Sara Lance, who has been given the code-name Black Canary. As vigilantes, both Queen and Lance have been placed in situations where they have been forced to take a life.
