Biography[]

Victoria Star 002

Shooting Star in her first adventure.

Victoria Star joined Cody's Rodeo Extravaganza as a horse-rider and sharpshooter, along with Drew Daniels, who could whip up whirlwinds as the Texas Twister. However, their career choices proved disappointing when all they could draw was a thousand dollars per show. Drew overheard a radio broadcast from Rick Jones, sending out an S.O.S. for the Avengers. Texas Twister and Shooting Star decided the "shake the dust" off their unsatisfying career and become "gen-u-ine" super heroes. Victoria and Drew came together with three other adventurers from southwest, Red Wolf, Firebird, and Night Rider and formed the Rangers.

The Rangers arrived at an old Spanish mission where Rick was being prisoner by the Corruptor. Unfortunately, the Corruptor had managed to control Rick's longtime ally, the Hulk and sent him to fight the Rangers. Realizing she was woefully outclassed, Victoria chose to take a defensive position, but she did engage the Hulk after he attacked Texas Twister by firing her star-shaped stun bullets at him, which had no effect. The Hulk advanced on Star, but she back-flipped out of the way onto Banshee - Night Rider's steed. The Rider rode her to safety, but then dumped her as he changed strategies. As Night Rider charged the Hulk, he got into Shooting Star's line of fire. Believing that her stellar bullets should phase through the Rider, she fired at the Hulk, but the bullets had an unexpected reaction that caused Night Rider pain, allowing the Hulk an attack of opportunity to unmount him. Thrown from his horse, Night Rider slammed into Shooting Star. Fortunately, Rick Jones was able to free himself, and ran onto the field of battle. He succeeded in calming the Hulk so that he would change back into his human form of Bruce Banner. Banner took out the Corruptor on his own, and the Rangers arrested him. [3]

Years later, Shooting Star was in New York City along with dozens of other heroes from across the country in honor of the Hulk who, now possessing the mental faculties of Bruce Banner, was being celebrated as a hero and being given the key to the city. [4]

Victoria Star 003

Shooting Star and Satin.

Back in Texas, Shooting Star was enjoying herself with a shooting game at a county fair. Being in costume, her presence attracted a group of fans, and she entertained them by twirling her six-shooters. A man known as Black Billy remained unimpressed however, and bragged that no female could out-shoot him. He openly challenged Shooting Star to a contest. Billy had his cohort Pablo throw a handful of quarters into the air, which he intended on shooting. Before he could even fire off a single shot however, Shooting Star successfully hit all fifteen quarters before they could land. Black Billy was furious. As Shooting Star was getting ready to leave, she learned that Billy had kidnapped the children who were cheering for her. She tracked the kidnappers to an old ghost town where Black Billy and his gang were waiting in ambush. She ferreted each one out, dropping them with her paralysis pellets. Black Billy emerged with one of the children, threatening to shoot the little girl in the head unless she dropped her six-shooters. Star did as instructed, but then reached down to grab her spur and threw it at Black Billy, disarming him. With the children safely tucked away on a bus, Star told Black Billy "Seems I always hit what I'm aiming at - whether with a gun or anything else". [5]

Victoria Star

Shooting Star defends the President of the United States.

As a member of the 50-State Initiative, Shooting Star and the other members of the Rangers went on mission to defend the no-fly zone over Crawford, Texas from an aerial attack by Hydra, whom they believed was targeting the President. Shooting Star worked with Armadillo, Red Wolf, and Phantom Rider as part of the ground defense. Shooting Star took charge when the Secret Service failed to confirm whether the President was safely evacuated. The President emerged, declaring that he had no intention of abandoning his home during a time of war, and that he had faith in the Initiative to protect him. [6]

During the Secret Invasion, Shooting Star worked alongside 3-D Man and other heroes in an engagement against the Skrulls. A Skrull who had assumed the form of Timothy Dugan activated a poison gas grenade that infected Shooting Star. Whiz Kid managed to user super-speed to siphon off the gas before it could become too lethal. When 3-D Man finished off the Dugan Skrull, the war was over. A recuperated Shooting Star joined in the celebration. [7]
