Her real name is Vanessa Geraldine Carlysle. When she was first introduced in New Mutants #98 in 1991, she was assuming the alias of a different character named Domino. She continued to operate under this ruse until the real Domino emerged in X-Force #8. Vanessa was revealed as Copycat three issues later in X-Force #11.

Vanessa Carlysle was a mutant gifted with the ability to alter her physical form into that of another person of relative size and mass. Her powers extended to the genetic level so that she could even duplicate an individual's innate abilities to some extent.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • Copycat shares mutant qualities common to those of both Mystique and Rogue, who actually maintain a familial relationship with one another. Mystique is also blue-skinned, though of a deeper hue, and is also a shape-shifter. Rogue can duplicate the powers of anyone she comes into contact with.
  • Actress Morena Baccarin played a version of Carlyle, known only as Vanessa, in the 2016 film version of Deadpool. This version of the character is a human prostitute and does not possess any super-powers.
