The University is a fictional organization featured in the Resident Evil multimedia franchise. It appeared in the Resident Evil streaming series on Netflix and was introduced in episode 1x06, "Someone's Little Girl".

Description

The University was a loose confederation of scholars and scientists whose goal was to preserve, collect and record information relating to the world prior to The Fall of 2022. They maintained their activity aboard a mobile floating headquarters that circulated around Northern Europe. Among the scientists associated with The University were team leader Saquim Salam, Doctor Amrita Singh, her husband Paulo, and a researcher named Jade Wesker. Jade was a field agent, who would spend months on end in the Badlands regions collecting data and samples relating to the "zeroes" - zombie-like mutants that developed as a result of the T-Virus.

Jade Wesker had been briefly captured by agents of the Umbrella Corporation, which was now led by her sister, Billie Wesker. Billie "allowed" Jade to escape, but planted a tracking device inside of the severed head of a zombie known as Mother Zero. Back on the university ship, Jade determined that the zeroes tracked by sense of smell, and wanted to test the theory on a fresh subject. She brought an underwater zero aboard the ship and measured its olfactory senses by coating herself in a pheromone spray. During the experiment, Jade's 10-year-old daughter, Bea entered the room. Her natural scent prompted the captured zero into a frenzy and it escaped. The creature ran amok aboard the ship in an effort to kill Bea, and though Bea evaded it, it did succeed in killing Amrita Singh before being brought down.

The Umbrella Corporation tracked The University ship towards the French coastline and sent a fleet of helicopters after it to board it. They knew that The University had acquired inflammatory data exposing Umbrella's more controversial and illegal activities. Saquim Salam met with Evelyn Marcus of Umbrella to negotiate a truce. Jade Wesker agreed to surrender herself to Umbrella in exchange for safe passage and release of the other University members.
