"The Submergence of Japan!" is the story title to the 118th issue of the first volume of the superhero fantasy comic book series X-Men published by Marvel Comics. The story was written by Chris Claremont with John Byrne as co-plotter and penciler. It was inked by Ricardo Villamonte and colored by Glynis Wein. Lettering was provided by Tom Orzechowski. The cover art for this volume was composed by Dave Cockrum with Terry Austin on inks, and Dan Crespi providing the cover lettering. The story was edited by Roger Stern with Jim Salicrup as assistant editor. This issue shipped with a February, 1979 cover date and carried a cover price of 35 cents per copy (US). In this issue, the X-Men travel to Agarashima prefecture in Japan to investigate a series of natural disasters including earthquakes and widespread fires. They reunite with their one-time X-Man, Sunfire, who is not particularly pleased to see them. Wolverine becomes infatuated with a Japanese girl named Mariko Yashida and the X-Men learn that the one responsible for all of the trouble is Moses Magnum.
