Ultron is the parent name of a series of fictional robot characters featured in comic books published by Marvel Comics. Ultron is part of the mainstream Marvel Universe, but has also been presented in Marvel's Ultimate line, as well as various animated projects such as the Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes television series. At the Marvel panel at the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con, Joss Whedon announced that Ultron would serve as the main antagonist for the 2015 sequel to The Avengers entitled, Avengers: Age of Ultron. The character of Ultron was created by writer Roy Thomas and artist John Buscema and first appeared in the pages of Avengers #54 in July, 1968.
