"Great Power" is the first episode of season one of the animated television series Ultimate Spider-Man and the first episode of the series overall. The episode was directed by Tim Eldred and Alex Soto with a script written by Paul Dini. It first aired on Disney XD on April 1st, 2012.
Plot[]
High school student Peter Parker has been fighting crime in New York City as the masked vigilante Spider-Man for one year. Nick Fury, director of international peace-keeping agency S.H.I.E.L.D., approaches him with an offer to train with S.H.I.E.L.D. and become part of a new superhero team that is being assembled. Spider-Man at first declines the offer, but after his school, Midtown High, is attacked by the Frightful Four (a super-villain team consisting of Wizard, Thundra, Klaw, and Trapster) on behalf of Doctor Octopus, he starts to wonder if he really should have declined.

- The character of Spider-Man was created by writer Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko. He first appeared in Amazing Fantasy #15 in August, 1962 in a story titled "Spider-Man!" The character has since gone on to become one of the most well-known and enduring super-heroes of all time, having appeared in numerous comic book titles, as well as feature films, animated projects and video games.
- Supervising producers Joe Casey, Joe Kelly, Duncan Rouleau, and Steven T. Seagle are all credited under the group name "Man of Action" in this episode.
- This is the first television appearance of the character of Thundra, who is a warrior from an alternate reality known as Earth-715. She is voiced by Tara Strong and appears next in "Great Responsibility".
