The USS Enterprise is a fictional spacecraft featured in the Star Trek multimedia franchise. It is the third such vehicle to bear the name Enterprise, and only appeared in the original film series. It was introduced at the end of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home in 1986. It also appeared in Star Trek V: The Final Frontier in 1989, and in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country in 1991.

The USS Enterprise, registry number NCC-1701-A, was a Constitution-class starship pressed into service by the Federation Starfleet for the United Federation of Planets. It was constructed at the San Francisco Fleet Yards on Stardate 8442.5 in the year 2286. It was designed to replace the retrofitted USS Enterprise NCC-1701, which was destroyed by its crew under orders of Captain James T. Kirk to prevent it from being taken over by the Klingon commander Kruge on Stardate 8210.3 in 2285.
The 1701-A was the exact same model as its predecessor and was also captained by James T. Kirk. Mister Spock served as First Officer with Leonard McCoy as Chief Medical Officer, Montgomery Scott as Chief Engineer, Nyota Uhura as Communications officer, Pavel Chekov as Navigation officer and Hikaru Sulu as Helmsman.
