Turbolasers are a type of laser weapon featured in the Star Wars multimedia franchise. They were first seen and identified by name in the 1977 movie Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Turbolasers were utilized as part of a cannon turret system found on battle stations and space vessels. They were most effective against larger targets such as other capital ships, medical frigates, transport ships and blockade runners. Smaller ships, such as one-man fighters were small enough however, that a skilled pilot could deftly evade them.
