Tryks are a type of fictional creature featured in comic books published by Marvel Comics. They are associated with the Blade line of comic book titles and first appeared in Blade, Volume 5 #1, published under Marvel's MAX imprint in March, 2002.
Description[]
A Tryk is a subspecies of vampire, which is more dangerous than a standard vampire, and involves a three stage process of parasitism.
The first stage is called Vapor, which is when the entity instinctively seeks out an adult human male to serve as host. The Vapor targets victims that usually live or work alone. It infiltrates the host form through oral-nasal penetration, at which point, symbiosis begins. This leads to stage two, which Seophon, Inc. refers to as the "Gutsucker" stage. The vapor begins feeding on the major organs and bloodstream of the victim. This is done by forming into a solid mass that produces tentacles. The symbiosis takes twenty-four hours to complete, by which time, the "gutsucker" dissolves and the human awakens as a Tryk, which is Stage 3.
There is no cure for preventing stage 1-2 symbiosis. However, if one applies a high-voltage current, the gutsucker will be forced to abandon its host, thus preventing transformation into a Tryk. The abandoned gutsucker can then be killed with a biogenic poison. However, the host body will not survive the experience.
History[]
One Tryk of note is named Rowikis. A group of standard vampires were attacking a woman named Susan Vandermeer in New York City, New York. Rowikis appeared and attacked the vampires, demonstrating superior strength, and killed one of them with a horn protruding from its chin.
