Biography[]

The Tri-Man, or Tri-Android, is an artificial humanoid construct invented by Frank Farnum, aka the Masked Marauder. He created the Tri-Man with the intent of defeating Daredevil. He believed that such an accomplishment would pave the way for him to earn leadership status in the international cartel known as the Maggia. He empowered his construct by borrowing energy from three local New Yorkers. From wrestler Tobe "The Mangler" Levine, he borrowed strength. From the safe-cracker known as Dancer, he borrowed swiftness. From criminal strategist Wilder "The Brain" Berne, he borrowed cunning.

He sent the Tri-Man to Madison Square Garden where he disrupted a boxing match and openly challenged Daredevil to come meet him in the ring, or else he threatened to destroy the arena. He demonstrated his enhanced strength by making short work of the athletes present in the ring. As the Tri-Man's challenge was broadcast across TV and radio, Daredevil responded to the call. Although Daredevil could not physically overwhelm his opponent, he was able to knock him off balance using various martial arts maneuvers. The Masked Marauder was watching the display from afar, and was not pleased when it appeared that Daredevil was beginning to get the upper hand. Commandeering a loudspeaker, he issued an ultimatum. Daredevil had to surrender to the strength of the Tri-Man, or else he would kill his friends Foggy Nelson and Karen Page. [1]

The Masked Marauder then used his levitation ray to pull the android out of the arena. Daredevil latched onto him as he disappeared, which is exactly what the Marauder wanted. They were both teleported to his lair, where Daredevil was encased in a glass tube.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • The character of Tri-Man was created by writer Stan Lee and artists Gene Colan and Frank Giacoia.
  • Tri-Man was succeeded by the Tri-Animan, which was empowered by animals (a gorilla, a cheetah, and an alligator), rather than by humans.
  • Tri-Man is not to be confused with the Tri-Sentinel, which is another three-themed robot, which is also a foe of Spider-Man.
