Total Recall is an American science fiction/action film directed by Paul Verhoeven. It is based on the short story "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale" by Philip K. Dick. The series spawned a television series called Total Recall 2070 and was remade as a feature film called Total Recall in 2012. The screenplay was written by Ronald Shusett, Dan O'Bannon and Gary Goldman and produced by Carolco Pictures and TriStar Pictures. It was released theatrically in the United States on June 1st, 1990. The movie stars action icon Arnold Schwarzenegger as Douglas Quaid - a man who is implanted with the memories of a virtual reality vacation, only to find himself trapped in the middle of a conflict between an evil corporate conglomerate and a rebel faction based on the planet Mars. The question becomes, is all of this real, or has the virtual reality simulation gone awry? The film also stars Rachel Ticotin, Sharon Stone, Ronny Cox and Michael Ironside.
