History[]
The Tome of Zhered-Na is an ancient and mystical text possessing great power and prestige; so much so that it is only slightly less regarded than the Book of the Vishanti or the Darkhold. It is allegedly a reservoir of all mystical energy. The book was put together from scrolls written by Zhered-Na of Atlantis, prior to the Great Cataclysm. For generations it was protected by her followers in the Cult of Zhered-Na. The scrolls were eventually bound in book format by Illyana Kale, who was a descendent of one of the original cult priestesses. [1]
In the modern era, a descendant of Illyana Kale named Joshua Kale, inherited the book and used it as the new leader of the Cult of Zhered-Na. Joshua was based out of Citrusville, Florida. Joshua's granddaughter, Jennifer Kale, and her younger brother, Andy Kale, stole the book out of sport and read from it, inadvertently releasing the demon known as Thog the Nether-Spawn. They managed to survive the presence of Thog and his demonic hordes due to the intervention of a mysterious muck monster known as the Man-Thing. The tome was seemingly destroyed at this time. [2]
Joshua led his cultists deep into the Man-Thing's Swamp near the Nexus of All Realities to conduct a ritual designed to recover the tome. Calling upon the Mists of Maalock, they were transported to an interdimensional realm known as Sandt. This brought them into contact with Dakimh - one of the original Atlanteans and a progenitors of the Cult. Joshua, Jennifer, Andy, and the Man-Thing journeyed from Sandt to Thog's native realm, Sominus. They recovered the Tome, and Jennifer, being a blood descendent of its author, was able to read it. She tapped into its power and used it to transport everyone back to Citrusville. [3]
