The Tingler is an American feature film of the "creature feature" subgenre of horror. It was directed by William Castle with a script written by Robb White. It was produced by Columbia Pictures and William Castle Productions and premiered in the United States on July 29th, 1959. The film stars Vincent Price as Doctor Warren Chapin with Judith Evelyn as Mrs. Martha Ryerson Higgins.

Tingler bloodbath

  • Director William Castle makes an uncredited appearance in the film as the host.
  • As with many William Castle-helmed films, The Tingler employed theatrical gimmicks to intensify the movie-going experience. A concept called "Percepto!" was employed, which sent a chain of vibrations through theater chairs during key scenes in the film.
  • This the third of five William Castle films with Robb White as screenwriter. He previously worked on House on Haunted Hill. His next film is 13 Ghosts.
  • This is the second and final William Castle film to feature Vincent Price in the lead role. The first was The House on Haunted Hill.
  • Although filmed primarily in black and white, there is one color sequence showing blood flowing from a bathtub. The scene was accomplished by painting the set white, black and gray and applying gray makeup to the actress to simulate monochrome. [4]
