A Time Lord is a title and occupation referenced in the British science fiction television series Doctor Who. It represents the hiearchey of the alien race known as the Gallifreyans. With rare exception, all Time Lords have been Gallifreyan, the most notable of which is a mysterious and often aloof individual that many have come to know as The Doctor. Armed with little more than a striking countenance, some quick wit, a companion or two and his trusty time machine, the TARDIS, the Doctor whisks about the universe, as well as traveling into different time eras ranging from the distant past to the far future, fighting off evil alien threats and protecting the innocent. Though most Time Lords have little interest in the planet Earth, the Doctor harbors a deep connection to the planet and has engaged in many exploits to protect it, particularly England.
Time Lords possess some abilities that is not otherwise shared amongst other Gallifreyans. One such talent is the ability to sacrifice their own life energy in order to power alien devices. The Tenth Doctor demonstrated this once when he had to give up ten years of his life in order to recharge a power cell from the damaged TARDIS. [1]
