Princess Pantha - an animal trainer for the National Circus has gone missing while on safari in Africa. Circus owner Mister Gilt-Edge Gates hires explorer Dane Hunter to track her down.
In the West African village of Tahoua, Princess Pantha continues on her quest to find a fabled giant gorilla. Using a gramophone loudspeaker, she hopes that broadcasting gorillas sounds might attract her target. The expedition is suddenly attacked by a tribe of natives and Pantha and her colleagues must take up arms against them. The other hunters are killed and Pantha is the only one left. One attacker begins strangling her, but Pantha is able to switch on the nearby gramophone. The noise through the loudspeaker attracts the roar of a distant giant gorilla, "M'gana", which forces the natives to flee.
Two months later, Dane Hunter comes upon the remains of Princess Pantha's safari. There is nothing left but scattered bones, but Hunter recovers Pantha's wrist watch, which leads him to believe that she has been killed. Suddenly the large natives attack again. The witch doctor orders Hunter to be taken alive.
From some distance away, Princess Pantha, now dressed in animal skins, hears the native attack. She corals a herd of elephants to stampede the village. As the natives scatter, Pantha rescues Dan Hunter. Once they are a safe distance away, Dan reveals that he tore a necklace off the witch doctor, which reveals a carving of a giant gorilla. Perhaps such a mythological creature exists after all.
