Thok is a fictional guard and henchman and a minor alien character featured in the Star Wars multimedia franchise. He made his first actual appearance in the 1997 fighting video game Star Wars: Masters of Teräs Käsi. The character has since been retroactively attributed to one of the guards seen at Jabba's Palace in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.
Biography[]
Thok was an adult male member of the Gamorrean race. At some point in his life Thok was trained in unarmed combat form known as Teräs Käsi. Thok was also Force-sensitive, which he demonstrated by producing a fireball belch after downing copious amounts of Gamorrean hooch. Thok also implemented this tactic when engaging in combat utilizing Teras Käsi. It was at this time, that Thok formed a connection to one of the Emperor's Hands, Arden Lyn.
In 4 ABY, Thok was working for Jabba the Hutt on Tatooine, and was one of nine Gamorrean guards stationed at Jabba's Palace. When Jabba captured members of the Alliance to Restore the Republic, he attempted to execute them by casting them into the Great Pit of Carkoon - the nesting place of a Sarlacc. One of the captives, Luke Skywalker, managed to free himself and fought back, striking down many of Jabba's minions with his lightsaber, including Thok.
Notes & Trivia[]
- Star Wars was created by writer, director and executive producer George Lucas. It first captured the imaginations of movie goers in May, 1977 with its inaugural installment, which has since come to be identified by its full title, Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. The movie led to two sequels, a prequel trilogy, a third trilogy, several spin-off films, and numerous television programs, animated projects, novels, comic books, and video games, as well as developing into a merchandising giant.
- Thok was played by an unidentified extra in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.
- Another Gamorrean who worked at Jabba's Palace was Rogua. He also died during the Skirmish at Carkoon.
- Kenner produced a Gamorrean Guard action figure as part of its 1983 Return of the Jedi line. It is possible that this might have been representation of Thok, though the figure carried a battle axe, whereas Thok carried a type of force pike.
