The Thing, also known as Fred and Barney Meet the Thing, is an American animated series of the superhero fantasy genre, based on characters and concepts developed by Marvel Comics. As part of a package program, The Thing comprised two vignettes per episode, spanning a total of thirteen episodes and twenty-six individual stories. The show was produced by Marvel Enterprises and Hanna-Barbera Productions and ran on NBC from September 8th to December 1st, 1979. The show featured Wayne Morton as the voice teenager Benjy Grimm who, activating his "Thing Ring", transforms into the rocky super-strong Thing, which was voiced by Joe Baker.
Despite its release title, Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble never actually met the Thing in any of the episodes.
This series aired the following year after the Fantastic Four animated series, which also featured the Thing. The two shows are not connected and take place in different continuities.
