Allusions[]
- The name of this episode is taken from the character of John James, whose nickname was "Kitten" during the Vietnam War. He derived this name because he had a tattoo of a kitten on his arm.
- This episode established that Walter Skinner lives in Alexandria, Virginia. This location also plays a major role on the AMC television series The Walking Dead. Both shows have featured actress Laurie Holden as a recurring character.
- Another connection to The Walking Dead takes the form of severed ears. In this episode, John James cuts off the ears of his enemies as trophies during the Vietnam War. He strings them together into a necklace. On the "Chupacabra" episode of The Walking Dead, Daryl Dixon, in a delusional and exhausted state, cuts off the ears from three walkers and strings them on a leather cord, which he wears around his neck.
Quotes[]
- Fox Mulder: Oh! Is that a...
- Dana Scully: ...desiccated human ear. There's a note.
- Fox Mulder: The monsters are here.
- Dana Scully: Does that get your juices flowing?
- Fox Mulder: As much as I appreciate any reference to my juices, Scully... My only concern here is for Skinner.
