The X-Files: Fight the Future, also simply referred to as The X-Files, is a 1998 science fiction drama directed by Rob Bowman. It is based on the popular Fox Network television series The X-Files and takes place between seasons 5 and 6. A sequel film, The X-Files: I Want to Believe was produced in 2008. The film stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully and attempts to bring together many of the existing plot lines from the previous seasons, which involves government conspiracies, cover-ups and secrets regarding the existence of extraterrestrials. In the film, agents Mulder and Scully, no longer associated with the X-Files division of the FBI find themselves investigating a terrorist bombing in Dallas, Texas which leads them to discover a deadly pathogen that may or may not be extraterrestrial in nature. Academy-award winner Martin Landau guest stars as an obstetrician who tries to help Agent Mulder seek the truth and "fight the future".
