The Keeper
Franchise: Star Trek
Manufacturer: Mego
Type: Action figure
Series: Star Trek Aliens
Re-issue: 2006 (EMC)

The Keeper was an action figure produced by Mego as part of its Star Trek Aliens toy series. Two versions of this toy were produced. The first series with a 14" backing card included The Keeper with a white tunic with light orange trim. The 10" backing card release of The Keeper had darker orange trim on the robe and is a notably rarer collectible than the first series release. The character itself is actually an amalgamation of two different Star Trek villains. The name and basic look is taken from the Talosian magistrate as featured in the original unaired pilot of the first Star Trek television series "The Cage". There are numerous visual differences between the toy and character however. The toy has a flowing white robe with wide sleeves and a butterfly collar trimmed in white. The Talosians wore slim, grey robes with no collar. The Keeper was distinguished from other Talosians by a golden medallion worn about the neck. The toy uses a type-2 male body type even though all of the Talosian characters from the series were played by women. The head mold and body are painted in light blue whereas the Talosians had caucasian skin. The facial design of The Keeper action figure is based on a puppet used by the child Balok in the season one episode "The Corbomite Maneuver". [1]

Notes[]

  • Item number: 51203/2
  • Like many of the action figures from this line, The Keeper was known for having easily breakable knee joints and were often found broken even in the packaging.
  • EMCE Toys re-issued The Keeper action figure and reproduced the backing card design as part of their Star Trek collectibles series in 2006.
