The Tantu Totem is a fictional mystical artifact featured in comic books published by DC Comics. It relates to the character of Mari McCabe, aka Vixen and first appeared in Action Comics #521 in July, 1981. A version of the totem also appears in the DC Television Universe where it is referred to as the Anansi Totem. It appears on episodes of DC's Legends of Tomorrow, and is owned by the character of Amaya Jiwe.
In the comics, the Tantu Totem was designed by an African trickster god known as Anansi. In the modern era, it is worn by Mari McCabe. It enables Mari to call upon the characteristics of certain animals, essentially borrowing specific traits such as the strength of a gorilla, the speed of a cheetah, the savagery of a shark, etc.
On Legends of Tomorrow, the Anansi Totem was one of six such mystical talismans given to the Zambesi people by the Gods in order to empower them against the threat of a disembodied demonic entity known as Mallus.
