"A Prince There Was!" is the title to the first story featured in the seventy-second issue of the first Tales to Astonish ongoing comic book series published by Marvel Comics. It features the character of the Sub-Mariner. It was written by Stan Lee with artwork by Adam Austin and inks by Vince Colletta. It was lettered by Sam Rosen. The second tale is called "Within the Monster Dwells a Man!" and features the Hulk. It was written by Stan Lee with layouts by Jack Kirby and finished art by Mickey Demeo. Both stories were edited by Stan Lee. This issue shipped with an October, 1965 cover date and carries a cover price of .12 cents per copy.

- Namor, the Sub-Mariner was created by writer and artist Bill Everett.
- The Sub-Mariner has the distinction of being the very first comic book superhero of the Marvel Universe. He was introduced in Motion Picture Funnies Weekly #1 in April, 1939 - six months prior to the release of Marvel Comics #1, which is generally considered the first appearance of the mainstream Marvel Universe.
- The Hulk was created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby. He first appeared in Incredible Hulk #1 in May, 1962 in a story titled "The Coming of the Hulk".

- Artist Gene Colan is credited as Adam Austin in this issue.
- Inker Mike Esposito is credited as Mickey Demeo in this issue.
- This is the first appearance of Zantor - an evil Atlantean scientist.
