T'Challa is a fictional king as well as a costumed superhero better known by his codename, Black Panther. He appears in comic books published by Marvel Comics and is considered part of the mainstream Marvel Universe. He first appeared in Fantastic Four, Volume 1 #52 in August, 1966. The character has also headlined several of his own solo titles as well as numerous limited series.
