"Episode 1.1" is the pilot episode of the American science fiction television series Surface. The episode was written and directed by series creators Jonas and Josh Pate and first aired on NBC on September 19th, 2005. Across the globe, sightings of a strange, undersea creature, possibly an extinct breed of dinosaur attracts the attention of various scientific research institutes as well as the US Armed forces. Oceanographer Doctor Laura Daughtery undergoes an expedition in the North Pacific Oceane where she has a brief, yet harrowing encounter with one such creature, and believes that it could be the find of the century. In Louisiana, a man named Rich Connelly goes spearfishing with his brother in the Gulf of Mexico only to watch in horror as his brother is swept away in the wake of such a creature. Meanwhile, young Miles Barnett finds an egg belonging to such a species and brings it home, consumed with curiosity over what might hatch from it.
