Supergirl is a British feature film of the action and superhero fantasy genres. It is based on the character of Supergirl as seen in comic books published by DC Comics. The film was directed by Jeannot Szwarc with a script written by David Odell. It was published by Artistry Limited, Investors in Industry PLC, Robert Fleming Leasing Limited, and St. Michael Finance Limited, as well as DC's parent company, Warner Bros. Pictures. It was distributed theatrically in the United States by TriStar Pictures. The film takes place in the same continuity as the Superman film series starring Christopher Reeve. The movie stars Helen Slater in the role of the eponymous hero, Kara Zor-El, aka Linda Lee, aka Supergirl. The movie also stars Peter O'Toole as Zaltar & Faye Dunaway as the villainess, Selena. Other notable cast members include Mia Farrow as Supergirl's mother, Alura, Simon Ward as her father, Zor-El, Maureen Teefy as Lucy Lane, and Marc McClure, reprising the role of Jimmy Olsen from the Superman films. The movie first premiered in the United Kingdom on July 19th, 1984. It premiered in the United States on November 21st, 1984.
