- Namor, the Sub-Mariner was created by writer and artist Bill Everett.
- The Sub-Mariner has the distinction of being the very first comic book superhero of the Marvel Universe. He was introduced in Motion Picture Funnies Weekly #1 in April, 1939 - six months prior to the release of Marvel Comics #1, which is generally considered the first appearance of the mainstream Marvel Universe.
- The story from this issue is reprinted in Tales to Astonish, Volume 2 #5 in April, 1980.
