"Air (Part 1)" is the pilot episode of the American science fiction television series Stargate SGU and the 31st episode of the series overall. It was directed by Andy Mikita and written by series creators Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper. It first aired on Monday, October 2nd, 2009 on Syfy. In this episode, Lieutenant General Jack O'Neill and scientist Doctor Nicholas Rush recruit a teenage whiz kid named Eli Wallace to help them unlock the mystery of the ninth chevron code on the Stargate portal at Icarus Base on P4X-351. An attack by the Lucian Alliance forces Wallace, Rush and the staff of Icarus Base to make an emergency jump through the Stargate where they find themselves transported aboard an ancient space ship that has been traveling across the cosmos for thousands of years.
