Shavadai[]
The Shavadai, or Sha'vadi, is a human tribe found on the planet Simarka. It is believed that they are descended from the inhabitants of Mongul-ruled China and were brought to Simarka by the Goa'uld known as Raiden. The chieftain of the clan was a man named Moughal who had a son named Abu. Abu was in love with a young woman named Nya, who was the daughter of a rival chieftain named Turghan. One of the tenets of Shavadai culture was that the women members of the tribe were always submissive to the males. They were required to be obedient, keep their faces covered at all times, and could not speak unless spoken to first. (SG-1: Emancipation)
Simarka[]
Simarka is a planet whose terrain and culture is similar to that of Mongol-ruled China. The SG-1 team traveled there in 1997 where they encountered a tribe called the Shavadai. In this world, women had no rights, and were required by law to cover their faces. This situation proved difficult for Samantha Carter, particularly when she was used as a bargaining piece between the Shavadai and a rival warrior clan led by a man named Turghan. Peace between the clans was only achieved via a marriage between the Shavadai's chieftain's son, Abu, and Turghan's daughter, Nya. This however, was still no easy task for the SG-1 team, as Carter had to challenge Turghan to a trial by combat. (SG-1: Emancipation)
