Notes & Trivia[]
- Star Trek was created by Gene Roddenberry. The franchise first came into being a weekly science fiction television series that aired on NBC for three seasons from 1966 to 1969. It has since become a science fiction juggernaut and staple of the genre, spawning two separate film series, as well as numerous spin-off programs including Star Trek: The Animated Series, the 24th century-era shows, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager, and Star Trek: Enterprise, as well as a prequel program called Star Trek: Discovery, which aired on CBS All Access.
- The tagline for this film is "To protect the light, they fight in shadow".
- This film serves as a spin-off of Star Trek: Discovery, which is where Michelle Yeoh's character, Philippa Georgiou, was first introduced.
- Talks of doing a Star Trek spin-off series went as far back as late 2018 with the intent of focusing on Michelle Yeoh's character, Philippa Georgiou, in a spin-off project. The idea was to continue the character's adventures following season two of Star Trek: Discovery. [1] Development of Star Trek: Section 31 began in January, 2019, but the project was put on-hold due to the COVID-19 global pandemic. Principal filming began on January 29th, 2024. It concluded on March 13th, 2024. The movie was shot in Ontario, Canada. [2]
- A one-shot comic book special, Star Trek: Section 31 was published by IDW Publishing and released on February 5th, 2025. It was written by Alyssa Wong with artwork by Megan Levans.
